Terms of Service

Lights Out Version 1.2, 30 September 2026

Everything in this document is written against what the app actually does.

1. What this is

Lights Out is an iPhone app that helps you go to bed earlier. It works out a “lights out” time backwards from when you want to wake up, it can block apps you choose in the evening, it sets your alarm, and it scores the night afterwards from what Apple Health recorded.

By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use the app.

2. It is not a medical device

This is the important one.

Lights Out is a habit app. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose anything, and it does not treat anything.

3. The alarm

Lights Out sets a real system alarm through Apple’s AlarmKit, which is why it can ring through silent mode and through a Focus, the way the Clock app does.

It is still software running on a phone. Do not rely on it alone for something you cannot afford to miss. It will not ring if the phone is off, out of battery, or if you revoked the alarm permission. We do not guarantee that it rings, and we are not responsible for what happens if it does not.

4. Blocking apps

If you switch on the evening block, Lights Out uses Apple’s Screen Time to block the apps you chose, at the times you set. It only ever blocks what you picked.

You can switch it off, change the selection, or remove Lights Out’s Screen Time permission in Settings at any time. Deleting your account lifts every block the app placed.

5. Your account

You need an account, and Sign in with Apple is the only way to make one. You are responsible for keeping access to your Apple Account.

One account is for one person. Do not share it.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile, then Account, then Delete account. It is immediate and it cannot be undone.

6. Lights Out Pro

Lights Out Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. It is sold through the App Store, and it is the only thing in the app you can pay for.

The plans

Plan Length Free trial
Yearly 1 year 7 days
Monthly 1 month none
Weekly 1 week none

The price is the one shown on the subscription screen in the app, in your own currency, at the moment you subscribe. It is set per country by Apple’s price tiers, so the figure you see is the figure you pay. We do not show a price anywhere the App Store has not given us one.

The free trial is 7 days, on the yearly plan only. Apple allows one introductory offer per person per subscription group, so you can use it once. If you cancel before it ends, you are not charged.

Renewal. Payment is taken by your Apple Account. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.

Cancelling. You manage and cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings, not here: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. We cannot cancel it for you, and deleting the app does not cancel it. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the period you are in.

Refunds are handled by Apple, under the App Store’s terms, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not take payments and we cannot issue refunds.

Changes to the price. If a price changes, Apple tells you before the change takes effect and asks you to agree to it, in the way its rules require.

7. What you may not do

Do not use the app to break the law. Do not try to break into the service, other people’s accounts, or the parts of it that are not yours. Do not use the feedback form to send abuse, spam, or anything illegal. Do not decompile or resell the app.

Your handle and your photo are seen by your friends. Do not use either for anything offensive, sexual, hateful, threatening, or that impersonates someone. There is zero tolerance for this.

You can report someone from their page in the app, and remove and block them from the same place. We look at every report within 24 hours, and we remove content or delete accounts that break these rules.

We may suspend or delete an account that does any of that.

8. Feedback you send us

If you send a feedback report or a suggestion, we may use it to improve the app, without owing you anything for it and without it becoming confidential. We are not going to publish your name or your email address.

9. The app itself

The app, its name, its design and its code belong to Romain Lagrange. Using the app gives you a personal, revocable, non-transferable licence to use it, and nothing more.

10. It is provided as it is

The app is provided “as is”. We do not promise it is free of bugs, that it will always be available, or that it fits any particular purpose of yours.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss: a missed alarm, a missed appointment, lost data, or a worse night’s sleep. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer in the EU, your statutory rights are untouched by this section.

11. Changes

These terms can change. If they change in a way that matters, the version and date at the top change with them, and continuing to use the app means you accept the new version.

12. Ending it

You can stop at any time by deleting your account and removing the app. If you have a subscription, cancel it in your Apple Account settings first — deleting the account here does not cancel a subscription Apple is billing. We can end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop running the service. If we ever shut the service down, we will say so in the app before we do.

13. Law

These terms are governed by French law, and the courts of France have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in.
